From sitting on the board of the NEFBA Custom Builders and Remodelers Council to sitting in front of a microphone, Matt Birdwell is the President of Riverside Homes Custom and now co-host of The Punch List Podcast. Combining his expertise in the custom home market with his hunger to learn, Matt and his co-hosts, Ian MacDonald and Jen O’Neal, have created this podcast as a networking hub for anyone interested and involved in the extensive world of home building and remodeling. At its core, The Punch List Podcast is an easily consumable and laid-back podcast with lively discussions and interviews that range across any area related to the custom home industry.

As a podcast with a short and simple format, Matt and his co-hosts don’t want to take up too much of your time, and intentionally keep every podcast under 30 minutes. For Matt, the making of the podcast has been just as enjoyable as it is for the listeners. As a life-long learner, he loves to discover new aspects of the home building world in which he’s worked for decades, but his delight doesn’t stop there. According to Matt, his favorite moments of the podcast are “connecting on a personal level with the people involved.” Whether it’s his co-hosts or the carousel of guests, the podcast has provided Matt with the chance to truly bond with an assortment of different people as they relate over similar struggles in the industry and explore how their respective fields have dealt with common problems differently.

Each of the show’s unique guests have shared their own wisdom, expertise, and experiences within home building and remodeling, giving Matt, his co-hosts, and the listeners a more personal insight into each facet of the business. Fortunately, The Punch List Podcast plans on continuing this structure of highlighting all relevant topics and bringing on as many guests as possible. Matt even shared, as a podcast, they yearn to “consider all aspects from and for people who’ve been in the business for a long time and people who are considering to go into our business.”

So far, The Punch List Podcast has done just that. Although they have already met a wide array of guests, the podcast is always looking forward to who they can have on next. Most recently, they not only spoke with a UNF professor, but they also gained insight into construction crime with an interview from a St. Johns County Police Officer. Seizing the exclusive opportunity to interview this officer on-site was an incredibly exciting chance for Matt and the podcast, providing them the ability to cover an intriguing aspect of construction from within the system.

Whether custom homes have been your life-long passion or you’re newly curious, Matt said it best, “We have a little something for everyone. People can come and scroll through episodes to find what they like most, or just dive in. And hopefully, there is an episode that everyone can take something away from.” So, check out The Punch List Podcast as it’s available on every platform where you listen to your podcasts, and join Matt and his co-hosts while they continue to explore the world of home building and remodeling, adding to their list along the way.
