For the Southern Living Idea House, the view of the artwork had a foreground and background image as do many custom homes we design. In the foreground, was a stunning broad porch with plenty of space to entertain. It was an extension of the family room that looked just as livable and lovely, and created a visual illusion that the home extended to the water. With a nod to the traditional design of Florida outdoor living, the custom doors created a sense of modern design while also opening up the home where anyone in the main living areas downstairs could enjoy the view.
In the background, perfectly framing the family room and outdoor living space was the beauty of water that surrounds Crane Island, century old oak trees and swaying moss all in muted colors that create a serene environment for the homeowners. Just like most custom lots, it was the canvas we built the home around.
