Behind the Build

The Doors are Officially Opened to the Southern Living Idea House Built by Riverside Homes

Categories: Homes, Southern Living

As millions of Southern Living readers flip through the pages of their August issue of Southern Living, they’ll experience what the Riverside Homes team has been crafting over the past eight months. The full editorial of the 2019 Southern Living Idea House will hit newsstands on July 19th with pages and pages of details and photos on this uniquely designed and incredible Riverside Home built on Crane Island. Purposely called the Southern Living Idea House, the sole purpose of the article is to inspire and create ideas for homeowners and homebuyers. The home, located at 50 Cord Grass Court, Fernandina Beach, FL is open for tours beginning on June 8, 2019.

However, if you just can’t wait to dive into every detail of the 2019 Southern Living Idea House we can at least provide a glimpse of what you’ll see in print and in person as you tour the home room by room.

This exquisite home sits on a picture-perfect lot overlooking the intracoastal waterway. From outside she feels like a century-old plantation home with a crisp clean white exterior and detailed wood work on the two front porches giving her character. The first and second floor blue front doors resemble the color of the calm waters out back. The front porch lights are as southern as a fried green tomato and as elegant as a string of pearls. Her curb appeal almost tells a story as you look through the windows. One of debutants who might have lived here, casual gatherings with friends and formal hosted events with polished silver and heirloom china or even just a relaxing summer night sitting on the porch in a rocking chair sipping sweet tea. While the 2019 Southern Living Idea House feels like she has so much history with her architectural detail, she is most certainly brand new. The home will open its doors for the very first time this weekend for public tours.

SOUTHERN AND STATELY

Our online blog tour begins in The Living Room. Inside the 2019 Southern Living Idea House the Living Room is located just off the kitchen and spills out into the rear porches through Marvin Clad Ultimate Outswing Bi-Fold Door and Clad Ultimate Outswing French Doors with Clad Ultimate Casement Picture Transom. The contrast of the walls painted in Sherwin-Williams Classic Light Buff (SW 0050) and the ceiling painted in Sherwin-Williams Pure White (SW 7005) against the rich color and texture of the faux painted beams are stunning. The waterfront view just beyond the large oaks and sea pines dripping in moss are almost all the artwork that you need in the Living Room. Heather Chadduck Hillegas, Southern Living’s former Style Director and now of Heather Chadduck Interiors & Textiles perfectly complemented the view by bringing the natural outdoor color pallet inside. The warmth of the colors in the rug, upholstery and table fabric combined with the subtlety of the drapery create a perfect combination that mimic what Mother Nature has designed outside.

The 2019 Southern Living Idea House is a 4 bedroom, 1 bunk room, 5.5 bath custom home with 4,540 square feet and an additional 1,532 square feet of porches. Riverside Homes will continue to share details room by room on our blog as the home is in the national spotlight and available to tour until the fall. The 2019 Southern Living Idea House embodies Southern vernacular and Lowcountry style with historic Fernandina Beach architecture.
